Cf ಎಂಬುದು ಲ್ಯಾಟಿನ್ ಪದ “ಕಾನ್ಫರ್” ನ ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ ರೂಪವಾಗಿದೆ, ಇದರರ್ಥ “ಹೋಲಿಸು”. ಹಿಂದೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ ಯಾವುದನ್ನಾದರೂ ಹೋಲಿಸಲು ಓದುಗರನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಲು ಇದನ್ನು ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
